The 141 building features 67 lofts of both regular market rental rates and low-income housing rates. Thanks to their participation with the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED program, 141 Lofts provide their tenants with all energy efficient appliances, including washer and dryer. Located in Layton Castle, these fully furnished apartments offer a charming setting rich in history. This stately castle fronts the Ouachita River and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The original raised cottage was built in 1814 and was expanded circa 1910. It was later remodeled to resemble a European chateau with tall brick columns on each end of the house.

Castle Hall is more than one hundred years old, and officials say restoring it will hopefully bring a little more value to the downtown area.The three story building was built in 1892 and was first inhabited by the Knights of Pythias, an organization whose mission was to take care of sick families and widows of the war.The building is being developed into nine condominiums, with a retail space on the ground floor.It’s going to come equipped with steel appliances and granite countertops, while also maintaining that old time look.Nearly five thousand people work in Downtown Monroe during the day, but when businesses close up shop, the area becomes nearly deserted.

Once known as Ouachita Parish High School, the Grand Plaza now provides apartments to seniors who would like some assistance, without giving up their independence.
